Coronation Street: Paul struggles to lift his wine glass

Coronation Street fans think they have “worked out” Billy Mayhew (played by Daniel Brocklebank) and Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce) could embark on an affair despite the fact Billy’s fiance Paul Foreman (Peter Ash) is trying to come to terms with his motor neurone disease (MND) diagnosis.

While Billy is heartbroken about Paul’s illness, his partner has been pushing him away.

Friday’s episode of the ITV soap saw Paul accusing Billy of patronising him as the latter attempted to get his fiance to accept he could need a wheelchair soon.

Paul wanted to forget about his traumatic diagnosis for the day and enjoy celebrating Pride, but Billy was adamant Paul should be looking to the future.

After getting drunk and pushing Billy further away, the latter confided in ex Todd about the situation, leaving fans predicting an affair could be on the cards.

Several viewers took to social media to share their predictions, with Twitter user @deanobeanos writing: “Billy going to get with Todd next no doubt #Corrie.”

@VampLover27 added: “Todd and Billy reunion #Corrie.” (sic)

@Yorvik187 penned: “Paul and Billy are the most unlikely couple on the Street. They have zero in common.#Corrie.”

“#Corrie Billy and Todd! Here we go!” @GeorgiaBowring commented.

@Hihannahlouise tweeted: “See, this is why I wanted Paul and Todd to get together not Paul and Billy #Corrie.”

@DonnaCarroll49 added: “I hope Paul dumps Billy, he is too much. He’s smothering Paul, so I don’t blame him going off on his own.#Corrie.”

Things were made much worse for the couple after Paul overheard Billy confessing to Todd that he wouldn’t have forgiven Paul for drunkenly kissing someone else if he didn’t have MND.

“When Paul disappeared today, it wasn’t the first time, he did the same thing a while back,” Billy explained to his former partner Todd.

“And he ended up snogging some ex of his while he was out on the lash, so my head was full of all sorts today,” he continued. “I get that,” Todd replied sympathetically. 

As Paul stepped out of his room and was within earshot, Paul continued: “The truth is if he wasn’t sick and he’d have done that, I don’t think I’d have stayed with him.”

“Don’t hang about for my sake,” a devastated Paul cut in before announcing: “I get it, I just want to go to bed,” and walking away.

Coronation Street continues on Monday at 8pm on ITV.
