Coronation Street’s Ellie Leach was announced as the 10th celebrity to join the Strictly Come Dancing 2023 class and opened up about her previous dancing experience.

The news of her joining the BBC competition was announced on BBC Breakfast where she revealed she used to do tap and ballet when she was younger.

Ellie explained: “I used to dance a little bit when I was younger, but it was tap, ballet, modern street dance.

“I’m not trained at all, and especially not in ballroom or Latin. I’m really excited to learn that new skill.

“I think that’s the most amazing thing about Strictly … being able to just be on the dancefloor every week.

“I’m always straight on the dancefloor – I love a good boogie, but I don’t know if my moves are good enough yet.

“I’m excited to kind of do something different, all the Latin dances, and ballroom as well, it’s so exciting.”

Ellie also revealed that she had known about her stint on Strictly for a while and found it hard to keep it a secret.

She added: “I’m so excited, I’m getting a bit nervous now it’s getting nearer to the time, but yeah, so excited!

“I’m the type of person if someone says: ‘Don’t say anything!’, I’m like: ‘Okay!’ I’m so trustworthy!”

Alongside Ellie, EastEnders actor Bobby Brazier and Paralympic Champion Jody Cundy were also announced as contestants today.

They will star alongside Nikita Kanda, Amanda Abbington, Layton Williams Angela Rippon, Krishnan Guru-Murthy, Eddie Kadi, Angela Scanlon, Zara McDermott and Adam Thomas.

Despite the show still being a month away from starting, it seems the series is already set to make some major changes.

Layton is known for his extravagant West End shows and is reportedly being measured to wear both dresses and trousers as they hope to be paired up with a male professional.

The star is said to have told BBC bosses he wants to be “his authentic self” and this would include wearing dresses.

A source told The Sun: “Of course, they agreed and the costume department are also measuring him up for them as well as other sparkling looks.

“They see it as a total non-issue but are aware it could raise a few eyebrows in homes up and down the UK.”

Strictly Come Dancing begins later in year on BBC One.
