Coronation Street star reveals genius way fiancé prepared for proposal

It seems that wedding bells are on the horizon for former Coronation Street actress Nicola Thorp, following a proposal from partner Nikesh Patel in January.

Nicola, who played Nicola Rubinstein on the ITV soap between 2017 and 2019, had been with her actor partner for 2 years, before he popped the question.

Speaking on the Jeremy Vine show, Nicola told viewers all about the romantic proposal, including the inventive way her fiancé found out her ring size.

Nicola said that she was surprised when the ring, a stunning teardrop emerald with a diamond halo on a rose gold band, fit her finger perfectly.

But how did Nikesh find out her ring size? Did he ask her friends and family? Did he take a ring to the jewellers to be measured? No.

‘We went to a pottery class and I took the ring off to do the pottery. I popped to the toilet and as I leave the room he shouts at the instructor, “grab the ring! Shove it in some clay!”.’

‘So, this poor pottery instructor, not knowing what was going on, shoved my ring in a piece of clay, and Nikesh took that to the jewellers and said, “sort of that big”.’

Nicola said that the proposal took her completely by surprise, seeing as he hadn’t asked any questions about her ring size.

She believed that they were simply having a date night when he blindfolded her and took her into the living room, which was romantically decked out with candles and photos of them.

It was here that Nikesh got down on one knee and asked her to marry him.

So romantic, we’re totally here for it.

When it comes to Nicola’s acting career, as well as starring in other TV shows such as Doctor Who, she is also a columnist for Metro.co.uk.

On leaving Coronation Street, Nicola said at the time: ‘I’ve got wonderful friends, a family that I’ve made here, and I’ll be really, really sad to say goodbye for now.’
