Coronation Street’s Paul Foreman (Peter Ash) has had a difficult six months on the ITV cobbles after he was diagnosed with motor neuron syndrome.

Over the past few months, the ITV resident attempted to hide his condition from his friends and family ahead of his twin sister Gemma’s wedding to Chesney Brown.

Back in May, the star revealed his diagnosis and has been supported by his family and his supportive boyfriend Billy Mayhew.

But things are set to take a turn for the worse for the long-term resident next week when his long-term condition dramatically deteriorates.

Motor neurone disease is a fatal, rapidly progressing disease that affects the brain and spinal cord.

It attacks the nerves that control movement so muscles no longer work and can leave people unable to move, talk and eventually breath.

However, MND does not usually affect the senses such as sight, sound and feeling.

Next week, his partner Billy notices Paul struggling to walk on his right leg which Billy does his best to hide.

But it doesn’t take long before the deacon suggests introducing the use of a walking aid or a wheelchair to help him day to day.

While tensions are high, Billy attempts to lighten the mood on Paul’s birthday and presents him with an engagement ring before he attends his joint birthday party with Gemma.

The loveable hunk is completely overwhelmed when he sees so many people and asks to take her son Bryn for a run around in the park to get a breath of fresh air.

But things go from bad to worse when Bryn runs off as Paul struggles to keep up with him before he collapses to the ground.

Luckily, Billy is right behind and carries him up to the flat as Paul admits that he struggles to manage the stairs each day.

Despite feeling utterly humiliated, Paul concedes that it might be time to get a stair lift installed in their home.

Towards the end of the week, Paul gets into the Pride spirit and dresses up for the occasion, but he is heartbroken when his occupational therapist agrees with Billy that the time has come to invest in a wheelchair.

Paul has a blazing row with Billy before he makes a beeline to the corner shop before he is seen knocking back a bottle of vodka on a bench.

As the night comes to an end, Billy spots three drag queens pull Paul out of a taxi and carry him to the Rovers where he chokes up after realising that this will be his last ever Pride.

But will Paul be able to overcome his pride and start using a wheelchair around the village? Only time will tell.
