Working in Coronation Street for over a decade doesn’t mean that an actor’s future on the soap is assured.

Even people playing established and well-loved characters know that their time on the show is certain only to the end of their current contract.

So it makes sense to start thinking about future roles, and that’s exactly what Corrie star Lisa George is doing as she contemplates what might come after Weatherfield.

‘I’m just waiting to hear if I get another contract,’ actress Lisa, who has played Beth Tinker on the soap since 2011, says.

First arriving in the soap as a former girlfriend of Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson), Beth will forever be associated with her relationship with hapless Kirk Sutherland (Andrew Whyment).

Their often comic relationship is one of the Street’s most enduring partnerships, enduring even despite Beth’s old flame Marco (Paul Albertson) appearing back in her life earlier this year.

Beth has a nasty side to her, as we saw in the storyline where she hit Hope Stape (Isabella Flanagan), but she also has a heart of gold and this came to the fore in the heartbreaking storyline which saw the illness and death of her beloved niece Sinead (Katie McGlynn).

Some of the most poignant scenes in the storyline were between Sinead and her Auntie Beth, with Beth struggling to put a brave front on as she faced the loss of someone she was very close to.

It’s perhaps emotional stuff like this that Lisa had in mind when she told the Daily Star that she has her eye on some dramatic roles when she leaves the cobbles.

‘I’m really interested in the war stuff because my grandad talked about the war all the time. So I’d love to do a 1940s drama,’ she said.

‘Or something set in the 60s would be amazing. I would love to do Call The Midwife.’

Having previously appeared in guest roles in both Casualty and Holby City, Lisa has some previous medical experience so Call The Midwife might be a good fit.

If not, she would also be happy to follow another former Coronation Street star, Michelle Keegan’s footsteps, having enjoyed one of her recent projects.

‘I watched Ten Pound Poms and loved it. A role in something like that would be amazing,’ Lisa observed. ‘I’d love to do something like that. I like my vintage dramas and stuff like that, maybe a 1940s drama, more like war stuff.’

The multi-talented actress has also previously shown her singing skills, taking part in All Star Musicals in 2021. She sang Maybe This Time from the musical Cabaret.

‘Doing that show was a lot of fun,’ she said. ‘I absolutely loved it. I was in my element and it was amazing.’
