Danniella Westbrook struck down by illness that left her 'unable to move'

Danniella Westbrook has revealed that she’s been struck down by an illness that has left her unable to move.

The former EastEnders star explained on social media that she’s been sick ‘all weekend’, and has been forced to cancel her travel plans as a result.

‘Been so sick all weekend, food poisoning,’ The Sam Mitchell actress wrote on her Instagram Stories.

‘Couldn’t move, can’t believe I didn’t make it to Ireland now need to re book for this week.’

Get well soon, Danniella!

The 49-year-old is best known for portraying the first Sam Mitchell in EastEnders, having made her TV debut as the character back in 1990.

The soap star initially departed Walford in 2000, with Sam written out of the show – before the character staged a comeback in 2002, with actress Kim Medcalf taking over.

Kim departed the Square in 2005, and Danniella subsequently staged a comeback in 2009, as Sam made a memorable return to the Square.

The character was written out of the serial drama in January 2010, before making a short comeback in September of the same year.

Danniella’s Sam would make one final appearance in 2016, as the mainstay returned to Walford for mum Peggy’s (Barbara Windsor) funeral.

Kim Medcalf, meanwhile, reprised the role earlier this year, with her iteration of Sam currently on-screens, having featured heavily during the festive period.
