On Boxing Day, Les Dennis will make his debut in the Death in Paradise Christmas special. The actor, who has taken on the role of medium Danny Sheridan, will join detective Neville Parker (played by Ralf Little) as he and the team solve another mysterious murder. Bad boy turned trainee officer Marlon Pryce (Tahj Miles) and Noami Thomas (Shantol Jackson) will also be back on the island of Saint Marie. Meanwhile, Commission Selwyn Pattison (Don Warrington) will also get a blast from the past after an old case comes back to haunt him.

Les will join several guest stars in the Christmas special and speaking in an exclusive interview with Express.co.uk and other press, the 69-year-old teased whether his character could return to the series.

“That is a crafty question, isn’t it because that tells you whether he lives or dies,” Les joked.

“I can’t tell you other than that he is here and he’s in the Christmas special.”

Despite not wanting to spoil the ending of the festive special, Les admitted he would love to “be involved” in another series.

“I would love to be involved,” he teased before adding: “But we will see what happens to Danny by the end of the episode on Boxing Day.”

Les had to undergo a bit of a transformation for the role of Danny Sheridan.

The TV presenter explained he would spend an hour and a half in the make-up chair before each scene.

He said: “At the moment, I’ve got a full moustache for granddad in Only Fools and Horses.

“So whenever I’ve played a different character, I will sometimes change the way I look.

“But I suppose it was the black hair of Danny Sheridan.

“Somebody said I looked like a deranged Jack Nicholson, I mean how can you get more deranged than Jack Nicholson?

“I was pleased with that because it means that I’m inhabiting a role and they’re interested to see you know who that character is.”

Discussing the lengths he went to, Les continued: “I didn’t have a hair dye that was permanent.

“They would do it in the morning so I would need to be in makeup for about an hour and a half.

“And literally, when I finished at the end of the day, I would have to go home and shower it out.

“I don’t know what they were using, it was kind of oil-based I think.”

He added: “And it was tricky to get out every night, so I had to shower before diving in the pool.”

On Boxing Day, BBC viewers will tune in to watch Neville solve the murder of a podcaster, who was looking into the case of a missing child.

The detective pulls in medium Danny’s help, but will he end up being killed in the process?

Death in Paradise Christmas Special airs on Boxing Day at 9pm on BBC One.
