Escape to the Chateau has been airing on Channel 4 for the past six years, following couple Dick Strawbridge and Angel Adoree as they renovate their stunning 45-bedroom mansion, Chateau-de-la-Motte Husson. The stately home, situated in Saint-Maixent-L’Ecole, France, was once a dilapidated chateau but has been refurbished to a high standard since Dick, Angel, and their two children moved in. But it is now the end of an era as the famous family says goodbye to the chateau for good.

How much is the Escape to the Chateau mansion selling for?

Dick and Angel purchased their Escape to the Chateau home, Chateau-de-la-Motte Husson, back in 2015 for just £280,000.

Not only have they put an end to their incredibly popular Channel 4 series, but they are also moving away from the mansion as well.

The 19th Century building, which has 45 bedrooms, a tearoom and a moat, was previously valued at £2million.

But Chateau-de-la-Motte Husson has been marked by French estate agent Leggett Immobilier International at just £750,000.

Dick estimated back in 2019 that they had spent around £280,000 renovating the property.

As well as giving the mansion a new lease of life, the couple put the building to work, charging up to £38,000 for weddings there.

They would also charge £250 for day tours and £350 per night for their “Chateau under the Stars” experience.

With Dick and Angel moving away, it is unlikely that the new owners will continue to offer these purchases.

Speaking on Radio Times’ View From My Sofa podcast, they explained how it was their children who made their minds up about leaving the show behind.

They said: “The children are turning nine and 10.

“They’ve had an innocence and joy in what we’ve done.

“We’ve got lots of things we still intend to do, but we want to protect the family part of it.”

The listing for Chateau-de-la-Motte Husson reads: “Recently restored, this beautiful residence is a magnificent family home while offering a wealth of options for a special events/accommodation activity.

“The chateau is already well-known locally and further afield due to its starring role on Ch4’s Escape to the Chateau DIY.

“It has been renovated to a very high standard by the current owners, who have also worked hard to restore it to its rightful place in the hearts and life of the local community.”

It continues: “Whilst preserving the original features, renovation work has included insulation, the creation of a self-contained apartment and studio/gite, together with its much-loved stylish Vintage Tea Room (fully licensed), Bed and

Breakfast Suites and v popular British Food Store!
“Architectural plans, and permissions to create a further six gites, a restaurant and a large reception room have already been obtained.” (sic)

So far, it is unclear where Dick and Angel will be moving to in the New Year.

Escape to the Chateau is available to watch on All4.
