For the past eight seasons, Channel 4 viewers have loved watching Dick Strawbridge and his wife Angel Adoree renovate their glorious chateau in France from a wreck into a fully-fledged home and events venue. However, their latest update is bound to be a bittersweet one for fans after they confirmed that, while series nine will start soon in the UK, it will be the final one.

In a statement via the pair’s newsletter, they jointly confirmed: “We are delighted to announce our ninth series of Escape to the Chateau will be starting soon in the UK.

“As soon as we have a date, you will be the first to know!” Dick and Angel signed off.

In the headline, however, the Channel 4 fan-favourites added: “The Ninth and Final Series of Escape to the Chateau.”

The pair didn’t disclose any further information as to whether this was a network decision from Channel 4 or one made by themselves.

They did say in a statement, however, according to House Beautiful: “Escape to the Chateau has been our family journey; our decision to buy a Chateau with no water, electricity, heating or sewage has taken us on the adventure of a lifetime and we could never have imagined what would unfold.

“The good, the bad and the ugly… we have cherished every second and love that we have a visual record to show Arthur and Dorothy when they’re older.

“We’re so grateful to everyone who continues to support us and we’re looking forward to what the future holds. As one Chateau chapter ends, so another Chateau story begins.”

It didn’t take long for fans of Escape to the Chateau to weigh in with their reaction to the bombshell, with a number pleading with dick and Angel to change their minds.

On Twitter, Mark Bowman urged: “Noooooooo it can’t be that this years #EscapetotheChateau is going to be last series, say it’s not true @dickstrawbridge.”

While Chris Ayres weighed in: “@dickstrawbridge the 9th and last series. Mixed emotions, great that your back on but sad it’s the last.

“Thank you for sharing your wonderful journey. Ps thanks as well for liking my tweets, my family still can’t believe that.”

Elsewhere, @polkadoter shared their emotional feedback: ”The 9th season of #escapetothechateau will be the last one. My heart cannot take it…

“But I am excited for Escape to the Chateau: Secret France @dickstrawbridge,” followed by a series of crying emojis.

And Matthew Pegram also had mixed feelings: “@dickstrawbridge Its great news for the next series of Escape to the Chateau, but very sad it’s the final one.

“Both my me and my mum have loved watching the evolution of the chateau and your family grow. Perhaps you can buy another chateau to continue with more series. Lol.” (sic)
