DIY SOS fans might be in for a shock, as host Nick Knowles has dropped a major hint that the iconic show could be cancelled amid some worrying BBC news.

Nick revealed on Twitter that the broadcaster has not commissioned any further episodes since a wrap was called on the last series, after one fan reached out to see if the show might be able to help a family in dire need.

Discussing Angel Lynn, who was paralysed after falling out of a van on the A6, one fan tweeted: “@MrNickKnowles can’t DIY SOS help this worthy family?”

Nick then replied: “Sadly we are only commissioned by @BBCOne for one build this year for Children in Need and as yet not commissioned for any builds for next year.

“But we know there is great need and we can help many more people and communities so we are hopeful of getting news soon,” he concluded.

Worried fans swarmed the replies section, with one writing: “That’s so sad to hear Nick. A wonderful programme and exceptional service to communities around the country. I hope @BBCOne commission more soon!!”

Someone else posted: “[Fingers crossed] for next year, the work the show and the whole team does to help people in difficult times is inspiring.”

“It will be a travesty if they get rid of DIY SOS. Was amazing to be part of the show!” another wailed, while a fourth fan questioned: “Can’t you take the concept elsewhere Nick?”

It comes after the host was forced to step back from the show after an incredible 21 years as its presenter, after breaking the BBC’s advertising guidelines.

Nick had appeared in a Shreddies cereal advert, playing a builder, which reportedly broke BBC’s sponsorship guidelines.

He stepped back from the programme in November and missed out on hosting the 2021 DIY SOS Children In Need special.

In the advert, Nick popped out of a laundry basket, branding himself “Nick ‘get it done’ Knowles”.

It emerged that the popular show could have faced the axe earlier if bosses refused to let him return, with a source telling Daily Star earlier this year: “It wouldn’t have worked if Nick didn’t come back. No-one has the passion and foresight to ask the questions he has – he’s a wordsmith.

“The BBC had to be seen to do something but we were in the pandemic and they had no work for Nick. It ran away but it’s all resolved now.”
