Why is Doc Martin ending after season 10?
Doc Martin is going to call it a day after almost two decades in our lives on ITV.
Lead actor Martin Clunes confirmed it would be done and dusted with back in September 2020.
Fans were shocked when he revealed during an interview with Loose Women series 10 would be Doc Martin’s last.
He explained the fear for cast and crew would be the drama starting to repeat itself.
Clunes said: “All good things have to come to an end, and I’m sure there are lots of people who aren’t fans of the show who think it’s terribly repetitive anyway.
“But we’re at huge pains not to repeat ourselves.
“I just think we’ve sort of done everything. I mean, it would be so great to just sort of carry on, but I don’t think we can keep it as good.
“We’ve got such a lovely cast, and it’s been 16 years.
“We all sort of bump into each other’s children every two years and watch them growing up and flourishing, and just being down there [Cornwall] is heavenly.”
Season 10 of Doc Martin was filmed in Port Isaac, Cornwall, last year when everyone was reunited on set for the final time.
Clunes works alongside his wife Philippa Braithwaite who is a producer on the ITV drama.
They revealed in a statement Doc Martin has “avid fans” from around the world and has continued to top the ratings every time it returns.
But they stated “we now feel that the time has come to say goodbye to Portwenn” after 10 beloved series.

At the end of season nine, Doc came to the shocking conclusion he wanted to resign as the town’s GP.
He was criticised by the General Medical Council because of his blood phobia and thought it was time to move on.
Season 10 will see him take on the new challenge of looking after his newborn daughter Mary Elizabeth while his wife Louisa (Caroline Catz) is working as a child counsellor at the clinic.
But will Doc be able to settle into this new lifestyle or is it going to make him desperate to return to the surgery?
Once again joining Clunes and Catz for this series are Dame Eileen Atkins as Aunt Ruth, Ian McNeice as Bert Large, Joe Absolom as Doc’s son Al and John Marquez as PC Joe Penhale, just to name a few.
In the past, there have been some big names also welcomed as guest stars, including actress Sigourney Weaver as American tourist Beth Traywick.
With the drama coming to an end, fans are expecting another famous face or two to visit the seaside village.
Doc Martin season 10 premieres on Wednesday, September 7, at 9pm on ITV.
