It’s no secret that Meghan Markle and her mother, Doria Ragland have a very close relationship. But, how does the royal mother-in-law feel about her daughter’s husband? Does Doria Ragland like Prince Harry? Up ahead, we take a closer look at the Duke of Sussex’s relationship with Doria Ragland.
Prince Harry and Doria Ragland’s relationship
Meghan Markle marrying into the royal family felt like a whirlwind for all of us — so we can’t imagine how her mother must have felt. Fortunately, it seems that Doria Ragland is happy for her daughter and might even have a close relationship with Prince Harry. Here’s what we know about Prince Harry and Doria Ragland’s relationship, including how Meghan Markle’s mother might feel about her royal son-in-law.
Doria Ragland might move in with the duke and duchess
Despite living over 5,000 miles apart and in two different countries, Meghan Markle and Doria Ragland have remained as close as ever. And, now, with a royal baby on the way, the Duchess of Sussex’s mother could move to the United Kingdom to be closer to her daughter, son-in-law, and first grandchild. If Doria Ragland didn’t like Prince Harry or royal life, she likely wouldn’t want to move to the United Kingdom — let alone live under the same roof.
The move has yet to be confirmed by palace officials. But, either way, Doria Ragland will likely at least visit the Duke and Duchess of Sussex in the spring to meet her grandbaby and offer support as they adjust to life as parents.
Doria supported Prince Harry at the Invictus Games in 2017
Before Doria Ragland became Prince Harry’s official mother-in-law, she supported his endeavors. In 2017, when Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were dating, she attended the Invictus Games in Toronto. She and Meghan Markle shared box seats with some of the duchess’s closest friends, including Jessica Mulroney.
They attend royal engagements together
In the royal family, it’s uncommon for a non-royal mother-in-law to tag along on official business. But, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle don’t always follow royal protocol. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex invited Doria Ragland, who was in town visiting, to accompany them on a special royal engagement last fall.
As part of her royal duties, Meghan Markle partnered with the Hubb Community Kitchen on a special cookbook project, Together: Our Community Cookbook. And, her mother was there to support her for its launch at Kensington Palace. According to reports, Doria Ragland and Prince Harry chatted quite a bit and she introduced herself to guests as “Meghan’s mom.”
The royal family considers Doria Ragland family
It’s obvious that Prince Harry has welcomed his mother-in-law into his royal life with open arms. But, the Duke of Sussex isn’t the only one to impress Doria Ragland with his acceptance. At the royal wedding, Prince Charles made quite an impression when we escorted Meghan Markle’s mother out of St. George’s Chapel following their children’s nuptials.
Prince Charles also stepped in at last minute to walk Meghan Markle down the aisle after her father, Thomas Markle, couldn’t make it.
