EastEnders viewers are beside themselves after working out a dark twist behind mystery man Reiss Colwell and his comatose wife.

Speculation has arisen as to who could the wife of Reiss be as many think it could be the mother of a fan favourite on the show.

Many fans took to Facebook to share their thoughts on who this mystery comatose woman could be, and it seemed that Debbie was a favourite in the rumours.

One person wrote: "What if Reiss' Debbie is Whitney's mum? And wasn't she called Debbie?"

While another added: "Whitney's mum is called Deborah, which can be shortened to Debbie."

In addition, when fans worked out that Whitney's mum would only be 52, this drove up further speculation that she was Reiss' mysterious wife.

All this speculation came after it emerged that Sonia Fowler had found love with someone after being very unlucky in romance – but things don't quite appear as they seem.

Reiss came into the show last December as a love interest for Sonia and the pair have since hit it off and have got together.

But Reiss may not have been entirely honest with Sonia as it is revealed he has a mystery wife who is currently in a coma under suspicious circumstances.

In the latest episode of the hit soap, fans were left aghast after seeing Reiss access the bank account of his comatose wife in a bid to take her money.

Given that Reiss is infertile, he lately accused Sonia of cheating on him when she was showing pregnancy symptoms.

Fans reckon that Reiss has been eyeing up the money in his wife's bank account to fund IVF treatment with Sonia, which has left many beside themselves.

Many fans shared their thoughts on this and could not quite believe what they were seeing.

One person stated: "Reiss emptying his comatose wife’s bank account to pay for IVF with Sonia just seems so icky. #EastEnders."

While another wanted Reiss out the show as he is exhibiting some pretty toxic behaviour.

They said: "Stealing from your wife who's in a coma… Bugger off Reiss.. #eastenders."

A third penned: "Reiss is actually a toxic man. so he gets with Sonia, has sex with her all while he’s married to a comatose woman mind you, then asks Sonia to go the hospital and sit with her because he couldn’t and now he’s stealing his wife’s money to try for a baby with Sonia #EastEnders."

Somebody else suggested: "Wouldn’t it be a twist if the bleed on the brain Reisses wife has was caused in some way by Reiss &it wasn’t a stroke & he becomes the next undercover psycho?"
