EastEnders’ Mo Harris is set to return to Albert Square after leaving the show in 2021 and actress Laila Morse has promised plenty of "mischief".

The character first appeared in the BBC One soap more than two decades ago and became one of Walford’s most recognisable faces.

She left Walford in June last year for a life of fun on a cruise ship with her beloved Fat Elvis, but will now return to the Square for a short stint later this summer.

A renowned schemer, "Big Mo" is always up to something, so the question of what brings her back is sure to be on everyone’s lips.

Last seen leaving Jean Slater (Gillian Wright) in a rather unfortunate, and illegal, predicament, she is never far from her family, or trouble.

Speaking about reprising the role, Laila, 76, said: "I always have so much fun playing Mo so I can’t wait to get back to the Square and see what mischief she gets up to this time.

"I’ve missed my on-screen family so much and can’t wait to see everyone again."

The BBC has confirmed Laila will begin filming scenes over the summer.

With one character returning it seems another could be on the way out as showrunners have hinted Phil Mitchell could die in an upcoming episode.

The long-running character is suggested to meet a nasty end in previews for episodes which follow him in prison.

Phil is currently serving time behind bars after police discovered he was involved in Vincent Hubbard's death.

In scenes of him in prison, the character is still refusing to become a police informant and has made an enemy out of another prisoner named Craig.

Later he is seen getting into a bloody fight with Craig with prison guards intervening, Phil is warned by DI Keeble that he won’t survive in prison much longer and gives him 48 hours to rethink his decision about becoming an informant.

Just like the DI predicted, Phil’s life hangs in the balance, as the following day, Craig warns that he will die tomorrow.

EastEnders continues weekdays on BBC One.
