EastEnders Mitchell family member set to return months after dramatic exit

EastEnders star Kim Medcalfe is reportedly heading back to Walford as Sam Mitchell.

The character was last seen on screen in April as she headed to Spain to manage a new hotel bar.

Since she was last in Albert Square, her teenage son Ricky Jr has become a dad after welcoming baby Charli with Lily Slater (Lilia Turner).

According to Metro.co.uk, Kim, 49, has been spotted at Elstree studios filming her return scenes, which will air later this year.

The actress has played Phil Mitchel's (Steve McFadden) younger sister on and off since 2002.

Danielle Westbrook originally played the role of Sam but was axed by bosses.

It comes after Kim was spotted out and about in London and posed for a picture with a black cab driver.

The soap star was seen wearing a white top and her blonde hair falling around her shoulders, while her cabbie beamed for the camera.

"Is that Sam Butcher? No it’s Kim Medcalfe, sure knows how to get around London in a hurry. what a lovely lady, Thank you the pleasure was all mine," he captioned the photo.

The snap was shared on an fan forum site, with Sam fanatics overjoyed to see Kim after she departed the soap.

“If I’d picked her up in a taxi I’d have locked the doors and driven her straight back into Elstree,” one quipped.

While another said they were struggling to watch the BBC soap after Sam’s exit.

The fan wrote: "My Samxiety is really bad at the moment. I'm not enjoying the show as much without her on it.

"Kim makes the character so watchable and multi-layered and if she comes back it would be the perfect antidote to Karen's axing", addressing beloved character Karen Taylor’s (Loraine Stanley )upcoming exit from the show.

According to The Sun, EastEnders bosses have confirmed Sam’s character hasn't been written out for good, and will be back at some point in the future.

Fans will have to wait and see what exactly brings Sam back to Walford.
