EastEnders star Nick Wilton joined the BBC One soap back on the 3rd January 2008.

His character Mr Lister has been a key part of plenty of storylines, including a gripping rivalry with fan favourite character Stacey Branning.

Mr Lister is the head market inspector and has the power to close down the markets in the square meaning he has a lot of power in Walford – and he is returning this week.

The long-term character has dipped in and out of the BBC soap but his most recent stint saw him hire Honey Mitchell (Emma Barton) as his replacement, meaning his regular appearances could be fewer.

However it turns out that Nick Wilton has a very interesting life when he isn't walking the streets of Walford.

The soap star has a connection to a famous TV chef, a second job and has shown his face on several other soaps.

Connection to Gordon Ramsey

In 2011 Nick Wilton appeared in a Specsavers advert alongside chef Gordon Ramsay.

In the advert the soap star walks into a steam room with no clothes on and sits down to relax.

He shuts his eyes for a bit and the viewers see pots and pans being moved around.

Once he opens his eyes the steam is gone it turns out Nick is sat in Gordon Ramsey's kitchen and Gordon angrily chops a sausage.

At the time Graham Daldry, creative director for Specsavers, said: “People often ask me how much life is left in ‘Should’ve gone to Specsavers’. I think this ad provides the answer.

"A great performance from Nick Wilton, beautiful direction from Daniel Kleinman again and, of course, Gordon Ramsay to really make the joke count. It’s got to be worth three Michelin stars.”

Other jobs

Nick Wilton hasn't only appeared in EastEnders, he's also appeared in plenty of other soaps.

The star has appeared in Doctors twice, along with Casualty, Heartbeat and The Bill.

As well as being a talented actor, the star has written for the likes of Three of a Kind and Playaway.

In 1987 he wrote an episode for The Les Dennis Laughter Show and in 1984 he wrote four episodes of Spitting Image.

The star also has an interesting second job – and every year, he works as a pantomime dame at Christmas.

His latest performance was in Pantomonium in 2019, that was streamed online due to the pandemic.
