EastEnders star admits it's a 'shame' that beloved co-star has been axed

A shocked Karen Taylor talks to Keanu outside The Arches in EastEnders

EastEnders star Danny Walters has been speaking about the news his co-star Lorraine Stanley will leave the show.

Lorraine has played Karen Taylor for seven years, with Metro.co.uk understanding that it was EastEnders’ decision to write the character out, with her final scenes set to air later this year.

The actress recently took to social media to share her sadness over the decision, paying tribute to all of those who played a key role in her time on the BBC One soap.

‘Thank you to [writer] Daran Little for creating the Taylors and to the BBC for giving me the opportunity to play such a fabulous character,’ she said.

‘I’ll be sad to be saying goodbye to Karen Taylor and will miss all the cast and crew at EastEnders.

‘However I’m looking forward to my next chapter and excited about being a jobbing Actor again & starting new ventures.

‘Again your kind words of support have been amazing!!! I’m going to miss my Taylor/Baker famalam Clair Norris, Danny Walters, Roger Griffiths and Matthew Morrison. Much love.’

With speculation continuing that Karen could get caught up in the upcoming fire at the cafe, Danny Walters has given his thoughts on Lorraine’s departure.

The actor, who plays Karen’s son Keanu, told the Daily Star: ‘I don’t know when she leaves or how she leaves but I know it’s been announced. I’m just pleased to have worked with Lorraine and known her for five years.

‘It will be a shame to see her go but I wish her the best of luck.’

Elsewhere, another exit on the cards is that of Shona McGarty, who will say goodbye to Whitney Dean after 15 years.

Life in Walford has mostly been traumatic for beloved Whitney but soon, she will turn her focus to becoming a foster parent with Zack (James Farrar) after the death of their daughter Peach earlier this year.
