EastEnders actress Gurlaine Kaur Garch has stepped down from the popular BBC soap after portraying Ashneet ‘Ash’ Kaur Panesar.
Gurlaine first made her way to Walford back in 2019 as the daughter of jailed murderer Nish Panesar, played by Doctor Who’s Navin Chowdhry, and Suki Panesar, played by Balvinder Sopal.
The BBC has now confirmed that Gurlaine, 29, is stepping away from the show while wishing her the best in her future endeavours.
"We can confirm that Gurlaine will be leaving EastEnders, and we wish her all of the best for the future,” a statement from the BBC read.
Speaking to The Sun, a source further said that Gurlaine thoroughly enjoyed her time on the show but is looking for new things to try.
They said: “Gurlaine’s loved her time on the show but she’s ready to try new things. She’s had an incredible three years on the soap and made some great friends."
“She’ll film her final scenes in the coming months and in typical EastEnders style it will be unmissable,” they added, teasing an explosive exit.
Since joining the show as the doctor four years ago, Gurlaine has been involved in several massive storylines that featured relationships with Dayle Hudson’s Peter Beale and Priya Davdra’s Iqra Ahmed.
Outside of EastEnders, Gurlaine has also worked on Holby City, Doctors and a 2016 short film called Liv.
The TV star also took to Instagram after the news broke to share a few new headshots alongside the caption: “Now represented by framework ent US excited for what’s to come.”
Fans headed to the comments in their droves wishing the actress good luck in her new ventures.
“Can’t wait for you to be on US (and Canadian) television," wrote one.
“Oh no will miss her on eastenders, good luck on your next journey. Absolutely stunning,” another wrote.
“You're so beautiful omg,” added a third, as a fourth said, “Only bigger and better things.”
In an exclusive interview with OK! back in 2021, Gurlaine admitted that the Panesar’s are like a real-life family behind the scenes, which no doubt made her exit even more difficult.
When asked whether the family dynamic continues behind the scenes, she explained: “One hundred per cent. We’re really lucky that we feel it off screen as well. It’s just such a natural thing for us.
“The banter between me, Shiv and Jaz [Deol, who plays Kheerat] is like sibling banter. Then you’ve got Bal [Sopal, who plays Suki] who puts us in our place and says, “guys, stop it!” or, “that’s not very nice.” So we really do have that family dynamic and it makes it so nice.”
