EastEnders star Jamie Borthwick warns Emma is not who she says

Emma Harding (Patsy Kensit) arrived in EastEnders earlier this year, though it seems she may be not be exactly who she says she is.

Emma had been absent from daughter Lola Pearce’s (Danielle Harold) life for many years, and it wasn’t until after Billy Mitchell (Perry Fenwick) had tracked her down that she discovered Lola’s illness.

Lola was diagnosed with a brain tumour last year, and after surgery to remove it failed, she was given the heartbreaking news that it was incurable.

Determined to make up for all of the lost years, Emma finally came clean about the real reason she had left, revealing that she had been forced out by Lola’s dad.

With Lola agreeing to try again, Emma has since been flashing the cash, despite Billy’s warnings that Lola won’t fall for that.

Is Emma really just trying her best to get to know her daughter, or is there something more sinister about her?

According to actor Jamie Borthwick, who plays Jay Brown, there’s ‘something not quite right’ about Emma.

‘Jay encouraged the relationship [between Lola and Emma] from the start because he can see that Lola isn’t in good health and once she’s decided she wants a relationship with her mum, Jay is never going to stand in the way of that’, he revealed.

‘But once she’s on the scene, he can sense that there’s something not quite right about her and he’s got his eye on her. Jay isn’t totally bought by her whole demeanour, he can sense that something isn’t quite right.’

In upcoming scenes, Jay and Emma are set to clash over their different approaches to Lola’s situation, with Emma branding Jay as being overprotective.

‘There’s that element of “well I’m here every day”, “I’ve been here the whole time and you haven’t” so whilst Jay understands Emma’s point of view, she doesn’t know their set-up and she doesn’t know how they’ve been managing’, he explained.

‘Emma’s arrived and she’s got opinions on the situation but she doesn’t actually know what’s really going on. That gets Jay quite frustrated actually.

‘He can also see that she’s not who she says she is, he can sense some cracks, and he can sense there’s something not quite right with her. He isn’t totally bought by whole “I’m really sorry” performance.’

With Jay suspicious of Emma’s motives, will her true colours be revealed?
