EastEnders star reveals Isaac's rage as Sheree gives Lola a severe warning

Isaac Baptiste (Stevie Basaula) stepped up to help Patrick Trueman (Rudolph Walker) in recent weeks following his stroke in EastEnders.

Isaac and Patrick’s relationship progressed too, as Isaac started to look out for him and even called him ‘dad’, leaving Patrick delighted.

In the coming weeks, we start to see more of the young man, as Kim (Tameka Empson) decides to set him up on a date with Lola (Danielle Harold).

The problem? Sheree (Suzette Llewellyn) isn’t pleased when she discovers Isaac is seeing Lola, and actor Stevie Basaula revealed how his character reacts when he learns Sheree issued Lola with a warning to stay away from her son:

‘He’s really angry and frustrated by that point because he’s warned Sheree before and told her to back off but the fact she’s gone behind his back to potentially scare Lola off, he’s really upset. He doesn’t understand why she won’t allow him to make his own decisions, he’s quite capable of looking after himself.

‘When it comes to Lola, he feels like she’s great and understanding and the world has moved on from how Sheree might feel about things.’

Sheree makes her opinion clear when it comes to not wanting Isaac to have a girlfriend. Stevie continued, adding how Isaac feels that his mum is trying to get involved in his life:

I think he’s always resisted Sheree getting involved in his business, especially his love life. He’s a bit more protective over Lola because he really likes her and he trusts that he can be himself with her – so there’s really no need for Sheree to worry. She continually interferes and Isaac reaches a point where he’s had enough and lets her know.

I think he’s at a stage where he’s feeling a bit lonely – especially after lockdown. Isaac is also in a space now where he’s settled, he’s found a job and likes where he’s living – so when Kim suggests setting him up with someone, he is hesitant but he’s pleasantly surprised when he finds out who it is!’

It was a touching moment to see Isaac decide to step up and help Patrick while he was in hospital, and following on from the scenes where these two characters clashed, Stevie explained how much he has enjoyed developing the calmer and nicer side to Isaac and Patrick’s relationship:

‘It’s really nice! When Isaac first met Patrick there was a lot of friction because he was this guy who was married to his Mum. That relationship was unappreciated at the time by Isaac, whereas now they’re starting to understand each other. Isaac is really supportive of Patrick too, after caring for him when he had a stroke he now appreciates him.

It’s been so nice to play that with Rudi – we’re not having to play this animosity all the time, we’re now able to be gentle with each other and develop that relationship more.’
