IAC: Myleene reveals Elton John sent her band flowers
During Friday’s instalment of I’m A Celebrity South Africa, Myleene Klass addressed the public shaming she experienced when she was in the pop group Hear’Say.
The band, which included The One Show host Kym Marsh, rose to fame in 2001 after winning the ITV show Popstars.
They broke up the following year, citing “abuse from the public” as the main reason for calling it quits.
Myleene told fellow campmate Carol Vorderman: “I got in the band and I had other band managers coming up saying, ‘You’re the fattest band in pop.’
“Newspapers then were writing it… You won’t have to look hard to find those headlines.
“So again, rather than the fact that we had talent, I could play any piano sonata, play any instrument you put in front of me, it came back to that simple fact that fat is bad in pop.”
She claimed the band was sent a bouquet of flowers by Sir Elton over the issue.
She alleged: “We even got sent some flowers from Sir Elton John who said we were one of the ugliest bands in pop.
“He sent flowers because he realised, ‘Maybe I shouldn’t have said that.'”

Carol gasped as Myleene continued: “He sent sorry flowers to us by which point I was like, ‘You’re a God to me… Oh.”
The Rocketman hitmaker reportedly apologised to members of Hear’Say at the Royal Variety Performance.
Myleene said in the Bush Telegraph later on: “I was asked to change my name. I was told people wouldn’t be able to pronounce it because it was quite an ethnic name.”
“You’d be cancelled if you said something like that now,” the presenter exclaimed.
“I was told to use my middle name. I am not using my middle name. My middle name is Angela. ‘Alright, Ang!’”
I’m A Celebrity South Africa continues on Monday at 9pm on ITV and ITVX.
