Emmerdale fans do a double take as beloved star makes shock appearance on ITV’s Yorkshire Ripper drama | The Sun

EMMERDALE fans were shocked to see beloved soap star Mark Jordon make an appearance as a suspect in ITV’s Yorkshire Ripper drama, The Long Shadow.

Mark, 58, is best known for playing Daz Spencer in the beloved ITV soap.

He first appeared as Daz in 2014, appearing on and off until he left the Dales for good in 2019.

But now he’s made a return to ITV, taking on a very different role in the dark drama The Long Shadow, which premiered on Monday 25 September.

The series follows the “desperate cat-and-mouse hunt” to catch the infamous serial killer Peter Sutcliffe, known by the moniker The Yorkshire Ripper, who terrorised women in the ‘70s and ‘80s.

Emmerdale alum Mark has a small part in the series, playing an innocent taxi driver who was caught up in the investigation. Part of a bank of cabbies in the Leeds and Bradford area who were being investigated, Mark’s character Ray Wood stood out because he resembled a picture the surviving victim had drawn of the man who attacked her.

One said: “Good to see Mark Jordon back on our screens again.”

“I said to my husband there’s Bellamy from Heartbeat and Daz from Emmerdale. It was good to see,” a second fan commented.

“I saw him straight away when he was standing in the corridor,” a third noted.

Mark shared equal excitement at his appearance in the series, calling it a career high.

“I can’t explain how a mini part in a huge production was without doubt one of my favourite jobs,” the Emmerdale star said on Instagram.

“You all know I’ve served my time on screen and I have certain jobs I’ll never forget, or be dead proud of being in. The Long Shadow is both.

“Blink and you’ll miss me,” he joked, before celebrating the rest of the cast and crew. “Let’s focus on the unique performances, incredible direction, produced with utter class, [and] casting (I don’t mean me) gems.

“You really could tell this was special, and everyone brought their A game to match it.”

Replying to his post, one fan said, “it’s so fab to see you in it,” while another commented, “you’re just ridiculously good in everything you do.”

Alongside Mark, the series stars acting legend Toby Jones as DCS Dennis Hoban, who initially led the Yorkshire Ripper enquiry. David Morrissey plays DCS Jim Hobson, who stepped in as the second detective chief superintendent. Lee Ingleby has taken on the role of DCS George Oldfiled, the third detective chief superintendent to head up the case looking for Peter Sutcliffe.

Line of Duty alum Mark Stobbart has taken on the role of the infamous murderer, and is joined by Katherine Kelly as Emily Jackson, Sutcliffe’s second murder victim.
