For a soap that tends to air a major stunt at least once a year, it’s getting more and more difficult to top what came before in terms of scale.
We often hear promises that set pieces have never been seen before and are bigger than ever, but there will come a time when that no longer is possible, barring a UFO crash.
In the past 12 months, Emmerdale has been home to a huge waterfall and rapids disaster, a mammoth blaze in a maze, a car wreck and an exploding pub.
But show bosses reckon that they have found something that hasn’t been seen yet in the genre as part of their 50th anniversary.
While a killer storm is not new territory, producer Kate Brooks has insisted that parts of the spectacle will be unique.
‘In terms of filming, it’s quite unprecedented in terms of scale,’ she explained to Metro.co.uk.

‘There are elements of the big storm week that I’ve not seen on a soap drama before and it’s very exciting and nerve-wracking to be part of that.
‘Hopefully it’ll all be brilliant and it’ll all be absolutely fantastic when you get to watch the episodes.’
Furthermore, Kate’s colleague Jane Hudson delivered another teaser, telling us that one part of the disaster will be something that can only be done in Emmerdale’s setting.
The catastrophe will unfold amid the wedding of Kim Tate (Claire King) to Will Taylor (Dean Andrews), but this is already doomed due to the love Harriet Finch (Katherine Dow Blyton) still holds for her ex.
And other plans for the anniversary include returns for Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller), Tracy Shankley (Amy Walsh) and Diane Sugden (Elizabeth Estensen).
