Emmerdale star Amy Walsh 'wasn't ready' to return full time as Tracy

Among the stars who are returning to Emmerdale as part of the 50th anniversary celebrations is Amy Walsh, who will reprise her role as Tracy Metcalfe – and immediately cause quite a stir in the village.

‘A lot happens for Tracy in a small amount of time,’ Amy told us of her return storyline. ‘She has some news for Nate (Jurell Carter) but when she sees him it’s not as easy to tell him as she may have thought.’

Tracy and Nate split up after he cheated on her, causing Tracy to move to Nottingham with the couple’s baby daughter. Nate has since started to move on with Naomi (Karene Peter), but when Tracy returns will there still be a spark between them? And how will he react to her shock news?

Amy says that she’s loved being back at Emmerdale, and she’s especially enjoyed introducing her baby, Bonnie, who she shares with former EastEnders star Toby-Alexander Smith, to her workmates.

‘It’s been really lovely seeing everyone again and being able to bring Bonnie into work to meet everyone as we’re based in London now, so haven’t been back before now. It’s also lovely to be back with all the covid restrictions finally lifted as it was very different the last time I was here,’ she says.

Amy reveals that when she went on maternity leave, executive producer Jane Hudson asked if she wanted to be involved in the 50th anniversary.

‘[Jane] mentioned it was all happening around August and September and said if I wanted to be a part of it to let her know but when it came to it I just wasn’t ready to come back full time,’ she explains.

‘She very kindly offered to write me in and back out again so I didn’t have to cut my maternity leave short but I still didn’t miss out on the 50th celebrations so it was win-win!’

While this means that Tracy being back in the Dales is ‘a brief return for now,’ it sounds like she’s going to have a massive impact.
