Emmerdale fans were left infuriated on Thursday night, as the romantic tryst between Mandy Dingle and Paddy Kirk was accidentally rumbled by several of the village residents – and swiftly condemned by those closest to the vet, including Paddy’s estranged wife Chastity Dingle.
Viewers at home were originally left delighted on Wednesday evening, when the former flames found comfort in each other’s arms, after Mandy reached out to comfort Paddy who was struggling with depression.
Paddy has been spiralling in recent weeks after the truth of his wife’s infidelity became public knowledge just before Christmas – yet he appeared to have found some semblance of temporary peace with Mandy as the two shared a drink and spent the night together at the close of the episode.
However, the peace wasn’t to last, as Thursday picked up where things had left off and saw Paddy appearing initially withdrawn as Mandy tried to address the situation.
Explaining that he needed to head out and fetch some milk, Paddy soon left, leaving Mandy behind in nothing but a dressing gown to wait for his return.
Unfortunately however, it wasn’t the veterinary surgeon that came calling, but his estranged wife Chas – who soon gave Mandy an earful for sleeping with a married man, despite her own track record for being unfaithful.
Paddy’s close pal Marlon Dingle and wife Rhona, also shared their thoughts on the reunion later in the episode, with neither of the two happy about the development.
Fans however, were far more supportive and quickly hit out at the negativity surrounding the romance, which many felt was long overdue.
“Chas has a bloody cheek on her getting nasty cos Paddy had a bit with Mandy! Does she know what being split up means? At least Paddy waited til they were split,” wrote one fan.
Another agreed, adding: “Chas gets even worse. You wouldn’t have believed it possible? She just keeps finding new depths of scummyness.”
“How is Chas trying to take the high ground with Mandy when she had a full on affair not a 1 night stand.. both in the wrong what I’m saying is an affair is much worse,” commented a third fan.
While a fourth viewer added: “Get lost with the self-righteousness Chas. None of your business now.”
