Emmerdale viewers left in tears as the Dingle family mourn farm death ahead of Christmas

Emmerdale viewers were left in tears on Thursday's hour-long episode as the Dingle family mourned a death on the farm ahead of Christmas Day.

During the latest instalment, Sam Dingle noticed that their last pig on the farm, Dolores, wasn't well as he called vet Rhona Goskirk.

Upon arriving, Rhona sadly confirmed that the animal would have to be put down.

The decision left the Dingle family devastated as they reminisced about Dolores and mourned the beloved pig.

An upset Sam said: "Lisa trusted me with them, she'd be spinning!"

To which Lydia Dingle said: "Lisa Dingle was the best pig woman ever and she'd be proud that you got Dolores this far. Isn't that right, Belle?"

Sam then went with Rhona to put down Dolores, saying: "She'll be calm for me, I'm her family."

To which Sam's sister Belle Dingle sweetly added: "Let's go together."

Taking to Twitter, one person said: "That's it – I'm upset. Not about Paddy, Chloe or anyone. THE PIG HAS DIED! #emmerdale."

A different account put: "Aww the Dingle family’s pig isn’t well. #Emmerdale" with crying emojis.

While Emmerdale's official Twitter page also tweeted the emotional moment, writing: "Goodbye, Dolores the pig!"

To which a collection of viewers replied with sobbing emojis.

Despite the sad moment, the episode ended with a heart-warming scene as Lydia revealed she had found two surprises.

One was Belle's old locket, which contained an image of her late mother Lisa and her father Zak, and the other was a baby chick that had hatched recently.

The family took the new arrival as a sign from Lisa with Belle sweetly saying: "Well, if that's not mum saying: 'Sammy, the future's here, so just crack on with it,' then I don't know what is."
