Emmerdale fans are convinced they've worked out the identity of Vinny Dingle's biological mother in what could be a huge incest twist.

Vinny was raised by his dad Paul Ashdale, with his adoptive mum Mandy meeting him when he was just nine months old and raising him as her own. But it has been confirmed that she isn't his biological mum.

And now fans have spotted a key clue that could mean that his mother-in-law Sandra Flaherty is really related to him.

Sandra has been determined to split Vinny and wife Liv up to swindle her daughter out of her inheritance, with Sandra pushing Gabby and Vinny closer together until Monday's episode saw them tucked in an embrace.

She relied on Liv's asexuality in an attempt to convince Vinny Liv isn't enough for him, but he admitted that while he's still a virgin and does think about sex, he's the "luckiest man in the world" to have Liv.

Now fans think there could be a secondary reason for Sandra's desperation to split them up – that she's actually Vinny's biological mother, and worried that if they do seal the deal it could result in incest.

Taking to Twitter to air their theories, one fan penned: "#Emmerdale okay this is WILD but hear me out – what if Sandra is Vinny’s biological mum? And that’s really why she’s trying so hard to split him and Liv up, because they’re related?

"I know she’s after Liv’s money but just think it could be a good twist."

However, someone else predicted: "Is Sandra going to offer herself up to Vinny so that he can 'offload'? Another stupid, annoying storyline on #Emmerdale."

Other viewers have been left with a sour taste at the representation of asexuality as abnormal, with one tweeting: "I know it’s as a result of Sandra trying to wreck Liv’s life, but for the show to continually perpetuate so many negative connotations of asexuality is upsetting – this is pretty much the only asexual rep on telly and it’s disappointing that this is what it’s become."

As someone else agreed: "This Sandra/Liv/Vinny/Gabby storyline is making me feel so uncomfortable. Don’t know if anyone else feels the same."

In Monday night's episode, Sandra manipulated things to get Gabby and Vinny close as Liv walked in on them – but with her plans exposed, the newlyweds were left fuming and suspicious.

Sandra simply insisted she "wanted the best" for her daughter, but Liv fumed at her: "Not another word."

At the end of the episode, Sandra admitted to her co-conspirator Terry on the phone that there was "no way" Vinny would ever cheat on Liv, before making another cruel plot to wean her daughter back onto the booze.

"I know she's in recovery, but it would only take one drink," she told Terry, announcing it was time for "plan B".
