Matthew Wolfenden cries on This Morning over his Emmerdale exit montage
Emmerdale’s Sam and Lydia Dingle (played by James Hooton and Karen Blick) are one of the village’s strongest couples.
They have been through a lot together, with Sam almost dying last October after he was impaled by a tractor spike when a storm ripped through the Yorkshire Dales.
He eventually recovered from his horrendous injuries and had Lydia by his side to help him through the process.
However, he has been suspicious of Lydia’s childhood friend Craig Reed (Ben Addis) who is the village newcomer.
Little does he know, Craig raped Lydia at work earlier this month in harrowing scenes which unfolded on the ITV soap. She hasn’t told a soul.

Lydia has been keeping the ordeal a secret from Sam as she is fearful about his reaction.
Speaking to Express.co.uk about the aftermath of the sexual assault, Lydia actress Karen said: “She’s terrified this could mean the end of her marriage to Sam which is her absolute world, and the end of the Dingle family, which means so much to Lydia.
“She grew up in care, in isolation, she’s estranged in many ways from her own family so the Dingles are her absolute world.”
Lydia met Craig when they were living in a children’s home and she became pregnant with his child when she was a teenager.
She lost their child and opened up to Craig about it when he first arrived in Emmerdale.
The pair were growing close before he took advantage of Lydia and raped her.

He’s been acting as though nothing happened while Lydia has been struggling in silence.
Karen shared: “As time progresses, she becomes worse as she feels she will be even less credible.
“It’s very difficult and I feel the scenes after when we see Lydia with Craig, they were harder to film than the attack in some ways.”
She added: “It’s an absolutely horrendous situation for Lydia and we do see the toll and the impact keeping this ordeal a secret has.”
Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV and ITVX.
