Emmerdale’s Michael Wildman lands major Netflix role after Al exit on ITV soap

Emmerdale star Michael Wildman has discussed his character Al Chapman's dramatic exit on Tuesday night, revealing he has landed a new major role on a Netflix drama.

Earlier this week, Cain Dingle and Al found themselves in a showdown after the latter's affair with Chas Dingle was exposed in dramatic scenes.

During the fight, both of their gazes fell upon the shotgun lying nearby and the episode ended with the camera panning outside the barn as a shotgun blast went off, with it revealed that Al had been killed on Tuesday's episode.

Discussing his explosive soap exit, Michael added that a benefit of finishing on Emmerdale is he no longer has to commute to Yorkshire from his Oxfordshire home, which he shares with wife Ceri Ann Gregory and son Lucas, eight.

The actor has already landed his first major role since leaving Emmerdale and will be involved in a Netflix drama called Baby Reindeer, where he plays a bar manager whose colleague has been stalked for 10 years.

Michael told the Mirror: "My character is a bit of a wide boy but he is not a villain. The drama is being filmed in London which means I'll be able to come home to my bed every evening. It also means my wife can take on more projects herself."

The actor also revealed that his mum will be devastated over the Emmerdale twist for his character Al and will even be "crying like crazy".

He added: "My biggest thing now is picking up the pieces for Mum, as she is going to be crying like crazy. But I don't think many others are going to be gutted Al is dead."

Michael continued: "I did have a lump in my throat when I finished filming because I’ve made some amazing friends with the cast and crew. You share so much together – like having babies, losing loved ones – and I feel like I've made a new family. A job like Emmerdale will always stay with you."
