A fire broke out on the set of the Lord of the Rings TV series, causing the cast and crew to evacuate the studio during filming.

Photos on social media showed giant smoke plumes coming from a single-storey warehouse at Bray Studios in Berkshire during the blaze on Monday (April 3), which reportedly took place after an explosion blew up a workshop.

Staff and onlookers could be seen standing outside and watching on as firefighters tackle the blaze.

Other photos saw actors dressed in orc costumes as well as film crew members and security guards wandering around after being evacuated.

Fire engines were spotted at Bray Studios after the Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue service received reports of the blaze just after midday.

A number of firefighters were still on the scene helping to tackle the fire at the time of reporting.

The blaze ripped through a single storey warehouse as the second series of the hotly anticipated The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power TV series was being filmed.

The Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue service told Daily Star: "At 12:26pm on Monday, 3 April, we received reports of a fire at Bray Studios near Windsor.

"At this time, Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service crews from Bracknell, Slough and Maidenhead Fire Stations have been sent to the scene.

"Upon arrival, crews discovered a fire in a single storey warehouse.

"Firefighters remain at the scene of the incident. Further updates will be provided when available."

This comes as the second series of The Lord Of The Rings: The Rings Of Power vegan filming in earlier this year, with it set to be released in 2024.

For the filming of the series, an ornate and heavily detailed castle set had been constructed, as well as a courtyard, water feature and an archway.
