According to the official NHS website, The body mass index (otherwise known as BMI) is a measure that uses a person's height and weight to work out if a person's weight is healthy.
The BMI calculation divides an adult's weight in kilograms by their height in metres squared.
But it is becoming a controversial measurement, being labelled as "flawed, crude, archaic and overrated proxy for health"
Criticism is growing that the system "arbitrarily disqualify bigger bodies from joint replacements and other life-altering “elective” surgeries."
