Let’s not beat around the bush here, we love Glenda Shuttleworth (Jodie Prenger) in Coronation Street.
Previously a singer on cruise ships, Glenda is the sister of George (Tony Maudsley) and made her arrival last year.
Working behind the bar at the pub, Glenda quickly became absolutely iconic and can usually been seen chatting to the locals or getting on the wrong side of Eileen (Sue Cleaver).
Most recently, Glenda annoyed Jenny (Sally Ann Matthews) and Daisy (Charlotte Jordan) as she spent the entire day singing in an attempt to drop subtle hints over performing at Daisy and Daniel’s (Rob Mallard) wedding.
It didn’t work.
Settled into her life on the cobbles, everything could change for Glenda soon as she catches up with her old mate Estelle, played by West End superstar, Ruthie Henshall.
As George and Todd (Gareth Pierce) show Estelle out of the undertakers, Glenda catches her eye.
She explains to George and Todd that they used to work together on cruise ships and later, Estelle reveals that she’s now the co-owner of a performing arts club for children and anyone can buy into the franchise and open their own branch.
This gets Glenda thinking, but what will happen next?
Could she leave Weatherfield for this dream opportunity?
Speaking about the once-in-a-lifetime role on the famous cobbles, Ruthie – full name Valentine Ruth Henshall – said: ‘This is one of the most enjoyable guest roles of my career.
‘Everyone is so welcoming and I can’t believe after years of the street being in my life that I finally get to tread the cobbles.’
‘Estelle is delighted to find her old friend Glenda and share a show tune or two to remember times spent entertaining on board cruises.
‘I am so excited and delighted to be on the street where so many brilliant actors strut, and have strutted, their stuff.’
