Robin Roberts is reflecting on life after getting the all-clear on her own battle with cancer 10 years ago, providing an update on her partner’s fight with the “rough” illness. The Good Morning America anchor says fiancée Amber Laign is doing “excellent”.
The ABC presenter was diagnosed all the way back in 2007, and her partner of 18 years received her diagnosis late in 2021.
Detailing Amber’s fight in a new interview with Entertainment Tonight, Robin revealed all about the couple’s “next chapter together”.
“It was a really rough year,” she explained.
“Her journey with breast cancer took some unexpected twists and turns, but she is doing really really well.”
Robin added: “The doctor said when it comes to treatment, it’s like women and shoes… they don’t always fit.
“So, they had to find the right fit for her with her treatment and the prognosis is excellent and she’s just ready [for us to] start a new chapter together.”
Talking of wedding bells, she said: “I’m going to be a married woman.
“It is happening this year, we have a date in mind. The save the date is going to be going out soon.
“I’ve been with this person for 18 years and we’re still excited and we still want to be with each other and we still want to start this new chapter together.”
Amber’s positive health update comes after “complications” in April earlier last year.
She was forced to suspend her radiation treatments due to issues with chemotherapy, luckily she was able to resume three months later.
“We both thank you for all your well wishes and prayers,” Roberts wrote on social media at the time.

“Proud of her and all fellow Thrivers for your grit and grace during a challenging time.”
Speaking of her own battle with cancer, Robin reflected in her new interview as she detailed having “bad days” and “challenges”.
She said: “It’s hard to believe it’s been 10 years. I want to be a symbol to folks that this will pass, that whatever their something is, whatever they’re going through, it’s going to pass.
“Just hang in there a little bit longer, that’s what I feel every day when I’m having a bad day or a challenge or whatever.”
Robin added: “I’m like ‘Robin, really? Remember 10 years ago when you were told you had one to two years to live’.
“‘And here you are, still able to say good morning to America’.”
Robin and Amber began dating way back in July 2005 before the newscaster publicly came out as gay in December 2013.
Good Morning America airs weekdays and Saturdays from 7am to 9am on ABC in the US.
