ABC viewers hit out at Whoopi Goldberg after she used an “offensive” word while presenting Wednesday’s episode of The View. She later appeared in a grovelling apology video shared by the network after fans called for her to be “fired”.
Whoopi used a word which is often considered to be an offensive slur for the Romani community while discussing Donald Trump.
She joined the panel as she began talking about the former US president’s alleged connection with adult film star Stormy Daniels.
Whoopi turned to former Trump associate and conservative co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin as they talked about Donald’s supporters.
“The people who still believe that he got, you know, gy***d somehow in the election,” Whoopi said, using the slang word to replace “cheated”.
After pausing, she continued: “That was gas… money from his personal thing.”
Inserting the g-word into her speech didn’t go down well with viewers, as The View later posted an apology video where Whoopi admitted she “shouldn’t have” said it.
“You know, when you’re a certain age, you use words that you know from when you’re a kid or you remember saying,” she said.
“And that’s what I did today, and I shouldn’t have.”
“I should have thought about it a little longer before I said it.
“But I didn’t, and I should have said ‘cheated,’ and I used another word, and I’m really, really sorry.”
Even her apology didn’t go down too well, with some urging ABC to reconsider its contract with Whoopi.

Agreeing, @DonnaLipa1 said: “Whoopi is always having to apologize for something she said.
“Maybe being a co-host is too much for her. Think about retiring, Whoopi.”
While some were unhappy with Whoopi’s choice of wording, some were glad she apologised in the new video clip.

While @LISA_C1990 added: “I am NOT a Whoopi fan, but I don’t think she needed to apologize for using the word g****d!!!! This world is so ridiculous!!!!!”
