Good Morning Britain presenter and money expert Martin Lewis has had a permanent spot on the ITV chatshow to discuss ways in which to say money during the cost of living crisis. However, on Wednesday morning he announced he would be taking a break from presenting due to other commitments.

After informing viewers of the best way to save money this Christmas, Martin bid farewell to viewers.

He said: “This is my last programme before Christmas. I won’t be back until March because I’ve got my show coming on in the New Year.

“Can I just wish everybody a very Merry Christmas, a very Happy New Year, and, especially after a Million Minutes.

“To those of you who will be going through grief and loneliness this Christmas, may you have more smiles than you are expecting, and may you have more joy than you’re expecting.

“And if not, I just hope you get through it and you get through it easily.”

Kate gave a heartfelt look towards her co-star, before taking his hand and saying: “And can I just say, thank you to you.

“You’ve really helped a lot of people this year as you always do and we wish you a Merry Christmas as well.”

Fans were left devastated but were also touched by the heartfelt message Martin left and took to their Twitter accounts.

User @06arsenal1886 praised: “That message bought tears to my eyes @MartinSLewis thank you, and a very merry Christmas to you and your family.”

@owlsbabe69 added: “@MartinSLewis Well you made me cry this morning. What a beautiful soul you are. Merry Christmas to you and yours.”

@casscurl commented: “I swear @MartinSLewis moves me to tear every time I see him. Such a lovely human being.”

Marian Pearson said: “I can’t tell you how much your words at the end of the segment meant to me personally.

“May only be words behind a screen, but I truly felt the love and care you have for people in that moment.”

Iain Balwin exclaimed: “Will miss seeing you on our GMB screens every Wednesday but can’t wait to see what else you bring to TV. What a lovely man. Merry Christmas sir.” (sic)

Martin is stepping away from his GMB role to launch his new series The Martin Lewis Money Show in the new year.

During his time on the show, he has offered help and advice to people struggling during the cost of living crisis and held politicians to account for their plans.

He said at the time: “I’ve been the Money Saving Expert for over 20 years – and in that time I’ve never seen anything like the cost of living crisis hitting the nation today, focused around the sickening rises in energy bills.

“Millions of families risk being forced into poverty by it. Sadly right now the best I can hope to offer many of those families is damage limitation, only the politicians have the power to provide actual solutions.

“So sitting alongside Susanna each Monday, I’m glad GMB is giving us a dual purpose of practical help and holding power to account.”

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV.
