British soul singer Heather Small has revealed how she's been able to maintain her petite physique over the years and what she does to keep in shape.

Talking exclusively to Daily Star at the Caudwell Children Butterfly Ball, Heather, 57, gave details on how her asthma played a role in how she wanted to continue to remain fit.

She said: "Everyone knows I've been a vegan for like 30 years and I'm an asthmatic as well so I try to keep myself healthier.

"I've always liked to work out, when my friends gave it all up, you know when you get to 18 and you leave school, they all gave it up. But I still carried on."

She added: "I just like to feel fit, healthy and strong.

"And when you go out touring, the biggest workout of all but you got to be fit before you start so that's what I always try do, to get into my fighter mode and my prize winning weight."

Heather, who is set to release new music this year, also revealed that she wouldn't consider herself as the best candidate for reality TV.

She said: "There's reality and then there's reality. There is certain reality I wouldn't touch, it's just not me.

"And I think to myself if anyone had to watch me 24/7, there'd be people in white coats waiting for me, rightly so.

"I don't think and act quite like others, I've got my own kind of system and that might be scary for others, it might make good watching though," she laughed.

Earlier this year Heather took part in ITV's The Masked Singer playing the role of Chandelier, but she was unfortunately unmasked and eliminated in the first round.

Speaking to the audience after being unveiled the Proud songstress said: "I have been told I have quite a distinctive voice. I decided to do it because I saw Gabrielle on the show and decided to give it a go as it looked so much fun!"
