Chas (Lucy Pargeter) and Al’s (Michael Wildman) affair has caused outrage among Emmerdale viewers, with the pair sneaking around behind the backs of Paddy (Dominic Brunt) and Kerry (Laura Norton).
However, it’s not just fans that are upset by the characters’ actions.
Actress Lucy Pargeter has expressed her anger towards Chas’ behaviour, especially when it comes to betraying Paddy.
‘I hate what she’s doing!’ She said, explaining how she understands the outrage from fans.
‘We were never going to win people over with Al and Chas when Paddy was involved.
‘You have got the cheerleaders for Al and Chas but [you’ve definitely] got the absolute haters for Chas and what she’s doing to Paddy and the reasons behind it.’
Despite recognising and agreeing with the opinions of the fans, Lucy has also admitted that she understands Chas’ choices.
‘We all love a naughty boy don’t we?
‘How I see it is like she’s going to the gym. She doesn’t have time for the gym but has a quick time for Al to release herself from everything that’s going on in her life.’
The actress, who’s 20 year anniversary on the show falls on the same day as the 50th, explained the importance of finding the truth in the story.
‘You have to put yourself in character’s position I have to try and believe it, I don’t necessarily have to like it but as an actor you have to find the truth in it and trust what your character has been given.
‘And if the director or producer or if the writers are putting it your way you have to suck up your own feelings about things sometimes, and just say “well if that’s what my character’s doing I have to throw myself into it and believe it.”‘
