Coronation Street will tackle the subject of abortion next week as Summer Spellman (Harriet Bibby) decides she isn’t ready to bring up a child.

Summer discovers she’s pregnant at the start of this week but chooses to keep it a secret up until a mix-up at the clothes stall sees Paul (Peter Ash) realise the pregnancy test in Gemma’s (Dolly-Rose Campbell) new jacket belongs to Summer.

In the pub, when Paul arrives to see Billy (Daniel Brocklebank), Summer, Aaron (James Craven) and newcomer Esther (Vanessa Hehir), he makes a comment about Summer’s condition and soon enough, her friends and family discover she’s carrying a baby.

After Summer rushes out, Esther finds her in Victoria Garden and explains that she and Mike can’t have kids and puts forward the idea of adopting her baby.

As a new week begins, Summer returns from the doctors and tells Aaron that she’s booked an abortion, but can’t help feeling a little upset.

When Esther discovers Summer’s plan to terminate her pregnancy, she’s gutted and offers money to try and change her mind.

Just as Billy appears, he’s horrified to realise that Esther was trying to buy Summer’s baby and, after ordering her to leave, later tells Summer that he disapproves of abortion.

With Summer in her room, Todd (Gareth Pierce) speaks to Billy and explains that he needs to support Summer…but can he change his mind?
