I was in one of the biggest British bands of all time… now I'm flogging fizz | The Sun

A POP star who was in one of the biggest British bands of all time is now flogging fizz.

Blur star Alex James runs a 200-acre Oxfordshire farm and has just launched an English sparkling wine.

Britpop Brut by Alex James will be available on August 12 and is priced at £25 per bottle.

The 54-year-old described the sparkling wine as "perfect for the good times".

The bassist continued: "Lovely straight-up or you can try pouring it over ice if it's sunny… 'en piscine' as they say in France (in the swimming pool). I'll drink to that. Cheers."

Developed in partnership with Dorset's Furleigh Estate, the booze is made with 40% Chardonnay, 40% Pinot Noir and 20% Pinot Meunier.

Speaking about the launch, James said: "I always loved sparkling wine and all the joy those bubbles bring to the picnic", calling this period of time "the golden years of British winemaking".

James added: "I'm chuffed to bits to partner with such an immense producer and Laithwaites to celebrate the best of British and democratise access to such a beauty of an English sparkling wine for such great value."

Britpop English sparkling wine is 11.5% ABV and is available to purchase via online wine merchant Laithwaites.
