LOVE Island star Ikenna Ekwonna has revealed he snuck two banned items into the villa – before they were promptly confiscated.

The 23-year-old is the latest in a long list of Islanders to break the rules by not adhering to the strict guidelines about what can and cannot come in their suitcase.

Speaking on the Love Island podcast, Ikenna said: "It's nothing even major but in there they take anything branded from you, but I wanted to sneak in some Nike shorts."

He went on to reveal that he had another item – chewing gum – taken away from him after another Islander grassed him up.

He said: "I had a whole packet! but I got baited out one night."

Amber Beckford, who was also on the podcast, interjected: "They took it because of Ekin-Su!"

Ikenna added: "I got baited out, that's one mistake I'll never do again, never give it."

Following Ikenna and Amber’s exit, ITV chiefs were forced to hit back against claims they had edited coverage based on race.

Angry viewers fumed on social media this week after they were voted off – the third and fourth black people in a row to be shown the door.

Last week Afia Tonkmor and Remi Lambert were axed from the ITV2 reality show after failing to couple up with any of the other islanders.

Some viewers claimed they had not been given enough screen time for the public to form an attachment to them. One tweeted sarcastically: "The black people with fewest screen time have been voted off? Wow. Never saw that coming."

But when they did appear, some felt it only highlighted how little screen time they'd previously had since the show kicked off nearly three weeks ago. One Love Island fan said on Twitter: "ITV must have had a boring day if they've resorted to putting black people on screen."

ITV denied any wrongdoing. A spokeswoman said: "We would take any suggestion that any editorial decisions are made based on race very seriously indeed and would refute this in the strongest possible terms.

"We have also stated on numerous occasions that owing to it being a 60-minute programme, it is not possible to show everything that happens in the villa due to time constraints."
