Iconic Coronation Street villain to make shock return for major murder plot set to rock cobbles | The Sun

CORONATION Street boss Iain MacLeod has teased that iconic villain Harvey Gaskell is set to return to the soap as a major murder plot rocks the cobbles.

47-year-old soap star Will Mellor is set to reprise the role of Harvey in the coming weeks after leaving Weatherfield last year.

Speaking exclusively to The Sun, ITV boss Iain confirmed the gangster’s return will come as part of an explosive storyline featuring Adam Barlow (Sam Robertson) and his brother Damon Hay (Ciaran Griffiths), who is also returning to the soap.

Corrie will revisit the love triangle between Adam, Sarah Barlow (Tina O’Brien) and Damon in the New Year.

Iain confirmed that after months away “plotting his revenge” against Adam, Damon will be back with a vengeance. The soap boss also revealed that the gangster has spent months pining for Sarah.

“I felt there was a really intense feeling between those two, there was really natural chemistry and connection, and he comes back with a kind of two-pronged plan.

“[But] as it shakes down, Damon’s revenge may start to take a backseat to his feelings for Sarah.”

However, Adam’s anger is amping up, Iain revealed.

“Adam can’t stand the idea that this guy’s back and has maybe got designs on Sarah, who at this point is still his wife although they are going through a divorce, and he decides in his mind that to protect Sarah, he might want rid of Damon. "

This will lead to a shocking murder plot and the return of Will’s character. With no love lost between Harvey and his brother, Adam seeks out his help.

“So as Damon’s calming down, Adam’s going in the other direction and his plans to rid himself of Damon will see him pay a little visit to Damien’s half brother Harvey, because he’s no fan of Damon’s either, and they might form this kind of unholy alliance.

“They have a shared problem in the form of Damon and think they can help each other in that regard,” Iain revealed.

The dramatic scenes will begin airing as soon as the new year begins, and Iain confirmed that viewers should be very excited about the storyline.

“It’s got fantastic actors in it, as all our stories do, the storyline is packed full of twists and turns and excitement.

“Dare I say it in this day and age, but it’s quite sexy as well. I think it’s got lots of intensity and passion and a kind of whirlwind romance for Damon and Sarah.

“I should also point out that Sarah’s family are certainly no fan of her new love interest Damon, given what they know of his backstory, so there’s lots of really funny Meet the Parents type stuff where Damon where Sarah brings Damon to a family meal and he has to sit there and try and play nice with Gale and Audrey and David, and gives us yet more of those brilliant Platts family summit kind of scenes that we all love.

“So yeah, there’s loads going on in that and it kicks off in a kind of massive explosive way on the first episode of the year,” he concluded.
