I'm A Celebrity: Sue Cleaver fears Corrie fans won't like her as much as Eileen

Coronation Street star Sue Cleaver is heading into the jungle for this year’s I’m A Celebrity.

The actress, known for her role as Eileen Grimshaw, will join the likes of Charlene White, Chris Moyles and Jill Scott for the first series back in Australia since Coronavirus, which saw the popular reality show air in a Welsh castle.

This isn’t the first time a Weatherfield legend has swapped the cobbles for hammocks and creepy crawlies (the glamour). In recent years, Simon Gregson (Steve McDonald), Jennie McAlpine (Fiz Stape) and Andy Whyment (Kirk Sutherland) waved goodbye to their celebrity lifestyles and joined a whole host of famous faces to take part in Bushtucker Trials, and it was Simon and Jennie who offered Sue – who’s been written out of the soap to take part – some advice for this year.

‘I have spoken to Jennie and Simon’, she said.

‘They seemed to think I will have an absolute ball. They have told me I will love it and have a great time. It is very positive and I am going there feeling excited.’

Just like Simon, Jennie and Andy, Sue is absolutely best known for being Eileen from Corrie (she’s played her for 22 years!) and tends to keep her life as Sue pretty private.

‘This is the scariest part for me’, she added, thinking about the fact she will be filmed 24/7.

‘I am a very private person and I am putting myself out there, which is what I am most nervous about. I do keep my life private and I am very happy with my home life. Viewers are going to see a different person to the person they think I am! I am very different.

‘That can be worrying. They might decide they don’t like me as much as Eileen!’.

Most recently in Coronation Street, Eileen faced a horrible accident when Gail (Helen Worth) bumped into her while she was carrying a stack of pumpkins.

The ordeal panned out in a surprising way, however, as recovering after being knocked out saw Eileen take on a much more pleasant personality!

I’m A Celebrity begins this Sunday, November 6, at 9pm on ITV.
