Inside American Idol’s Leah LaBelle autopsy – drug intoxication and tragic crash

Singer Leah LaBelle took the world by storm when she rose to fame as a contestant on the third series of American Idol.

Coming in at 12th place during the season finals, Leah was still a favourite amongst fans and continued to entertain her followers with her sultry vocals.

Born in Toronto, Ontario, and raised by her family in Seattle, Washington, Leah began recording covers on YouTube following her American Idol stint.

She later landed a record deal in 2011 with Epic in partnership with I Am Other and So So Def Recordings.

But things took a tragic turn for the star when she was pronounced dead on January 31, 2018 at the age of 31 alongside her long-term partner and former NBA player Rasual Butler.

Daily Star has taken a look at what happened and the singer's autopsy.

Tragic crash

At approximately 2:25am Leah and her boyfriend Rasual both died after they were involved in a single vehicle car crash in the Studio City neighbourhood of Los Angeles.

Rasual was driving the vehicle at the time as he lost control of his Range Rover on Ventura Boulevard.

As he hit a curb nearby, Rasual's car crashed into a strip mall parking lot, the car also flipped twice before coming to rest.

It is believed that before the crash occurred, the retired athlete was driving two to three times over the speed limit.

The couple both died instantly from "multiple traumatic injuries".

Autopsy

According to reports from Leah's autopsy, she and her partner Rasual both had meth and alcohol in their systems when they were killed.

The report showed that Rasual had methamphetamine, oxycodone, and marijuana in his system as well as a blood alcohol level of 0.118.

Meanwhile, Leah had a blood alcohol level of 0.144 and methamphetamine and amphetamine in her system at the time of the accident.

The former NBA star and the American Idol singer were both injured by a blunt force head trauma and fractures.

Aftermath

Following the couple's death, on February 3, 2018, Butler's daughter from a past relationship, Raven, held a joint memorial service for the pair.

Leah and Rasual had both been members of Christian church, Potter's House were the service was held.

After her death was announced, former American Idol judge Paula Abdul paid her respects online while sharing her shock and sadness.

She wrote: "@leahlabelle was beautiful & had the voice of an ANGEL. She was my wild card pick on @AmericanIdol. I’m heartbroken to know that she & her husband @RasualButler45 have passed away. What a horrible tragedy."
