DARIUS Danesh has died at the age of 41, his family have announced.

The star became a household name after he shot to fame following his success on Pop Idol in 2001.

The cause of his death isn't known. However, police say there are no suspicious circumstances.

The 41-year-old, grew up in the Bearsden neighbourhood of Glasgow with two younger brothers.

He then rose to attention on ITV talent show Popstars and he returned to TV one year later in Pop Idol – taking third place behind winner Will Young and runner up Gareth Gates.

Inside Darius' dating life

In his personal life, Darius has been married once to Canadian actress and model Natasha Henstridge.

The pair married in 2011 and then divorced in 2018 after making the “mutual decision."

Darius met his former wife when he moved from Scotland to the US, and he became a step-dad to her two young sons at the time.

He previously told the Herald that it was a "turbulent" relationship, and Darius was devastated when they filed for divorce in 2013.

But it was a hard period for the young star – as his Scottish mum, Avril Campbell Danesh, who was a GP, was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015.

After their split, Darius described it as a "grieving period," and said to the Scottish Herald: "You see, you don’t break up with one person, you break up with three. And in some ways, it’s like a death."

Darius famously dated Daisy Lowe, and confessed the pair had a fling.

He said they’d met through her dad Gavin Rossdale but they didn’t date until he’d split from his wife.

"There was a shift that happened a few months ago where we thought we'd go from friends to dating," he told The Sun on Sunday.He added: "When you're friends first, you know all of each other's s**t. That made being more than friends really easy."

Darius described it as natural and fun, but their time together came to an end when he decided he was better off as friends with the Strictly Come Dancing star.

Jacqui Ainsley

Before she married Guy Ritchie, Jacqui Ainsley and Darius dated.

They met in 2002 when she starred in his Colourblind music video and ended up in a relationship for two years.

The pair eventually parted ways because of their work schedules but Darius said he still "adored her," despite their relationship ending.
