Coronation Street star Tanisha Gorey (Asha Alahan) dishes on her character’s new potential love interest which turns out to be Asha’s boss, Isla (Emily Dowson).
But Tanisha confesses she hopes that when it comes down to who to choose, Asha will stay faithful to Nina Lucas (Mollie Gallagher).
Since 2021, Asha and Nina have been part of a very sweet romance story going from friends to girlfriends.
“Sometimes these things can be very orchestrated,” says Tanisha. “So I think the way that it did come about I really loved it and I'm so glad that they went down that route."
“Asha and Nina were really good friends and Nina had supported her,” continues Tanisha. “Nina even punched Corey [Brent, Maximus Evans] and had been there throughout the whole ordeal. So they had the perfect foundation of friendship to take it to a relationship.”
However recently, a spanner has been thrown in the works as Asha has been spending more time with her paramedic mentor Isla.
And now, Isla confesses to Asha that she’s split with her boyfriend, and has a crush on her. So what will Asha do now?
“Asha feels a responsibility to let Isla know she has a girlfriend,” says Tanisha. “And that’s why Asha wants them all to sort of hang out – to make sure Isla’s aware that Asha’s in a healthy relationship. It’s hard because Asha wouldn’t feel pressure to let Isla know that she’s got a girlfriend if Isla liked men.”
When Nina walks past the Bistro and sees Asha and Isla together holding hands, she gets the wrong end of the stick and their romance ends up in troubled waters.
“I hope Asha and Nina will resolve things, but the boat’s been rocked,” sighs Tanisha.
“So something’s going to go down. We all know Isla has feelings for Asha… Something needs to be sorted out because it can’t carry on like this, especially with how much Isla’s putting it onto Asha. I’m just hoping Asha and Nina will come out the better end of it – it’s so frustrating.”
Despite Isla’s revelation and obvious interest in Asha, Tanisha doesn’t see why Asha needs to go down that road.
“Asha loves Nina, there’s no reason for her to look elsewhere,” insists Tanisha. “I also don’t want Asha to be labelled. She’s had boyfriends before, and now she’s with a woman, I don’t think it’s necessarily important for Asha to see other women.”
