A war of words has broken out between Nigel Farage's lawyers and ITV – with a legal letter being sent to the channel over their decision to air naked footage of the wannabe MP in the shower.

According to a new report, furious aides of former Brexit campaigner Farage claim there is an "indecency clause" in his contract which bans the channel from showing footage of him nude.

On Monday night's show, Nigel's bottom was seen by millions of viewers as he took a jungle shower, the moment also surprised fellow campmate Josie Gibson who had been walking past at the time. When it happened a second time, when he was in the bath a few days later, his lawyer claimed the agreement had been broken.

They have now sent a letter of complaint to ITV, but in response sources at the channel told the Mail On Sunday no such clause exists and the footage is not in breach of his contract. A source close to 59-year-old Nigel was quoted as saying: "The legal team were not exactly over the moon about the naked scenes being shown. It simply broke the clause in the contract.

"Nigel will be surprised at the incredible reaction to it when he comes out because, as always, he is just being himself in the jungle. Who knows – maybe he could even do a calendar next year."

Both ITV and the spokesman for Nigel have so far declined to comment officially on the letter.

But ITV sources deny the clause exists and some staff on the show are said to be unhappy at the developments. Nigel was seen as a controversial pick for the jungle, particularly given his fee being around £1 million.

The first time Nigel was seen on screen naked he was also by by camp mate Josie Gibson. Speaking down under, Josie said: "Freaking hell! I wasn’t expecting to see Nigel Farage’s bottom so soon! But, I’ve seen worse. No, I haven’t. I haven’t! Fair play to him. He’s not shy, he just gets on in there. At least he’s clean."

A few days later Danielle Harold also got a glimpse of Nigel's bottom and described it as "the weirdest feeling". Whilst Nigel, had a bath, the actor walked past and caught sight of his bare bottom as he got out of the tub and said to herself: "That’s a sight… for sore eyes."

Danielle, 31, bumped into Josie and then said: "I just saw something I never thought I’d see: Nigel’s bare a**e." Josie, 38, laughed and replied: "I see it on the first day! Considering he’s nearly 60 it ain’t too bad."

Danielle replied: "He looks good doesn’t he? Nice little bum." Standing together Josie and Danielle said in sync: "Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No… it’s Nigel Farage’s a**e!"

Last week body language expert Judi James said Nigel is flashing his bum in the bath and shower to create his own "bikini moment" which he knows will get attention. Judi told Paddy Power Games: "A guaranteed way to get camera time in the jungle is the bikini moment in the shower, made famous by Myleen Klass’s iconic white bikini pose, so it might be no coincidence that Nigel’s naked bathing has become a daily feature when most contestants opt to bathe or shower in their undies.

"When Josie spoke about seeing his bum Nigel stood with his hands on his hips in a gesture of confidence and even moved closer to her as he asked for compliments with his ‘was it alright?’."

Nigel has often been in the 'rear' or 'behind' when it comes to general elections. The former UKIP leader stood for election to the House of Commons seven times, in five general elections and two by-elections, but is yet to win.

These include defeats in the election in Eastleigh in 1994, Salisbury (1997), Bexhill and Battle (2001), South Thanet (2005), Buckingham (2010) and finally South Thanet again in 2015, when he narrowly lost out and managed 32% of the vote.
