The television chef was rustling up some festive food on Friday’s instalment of This Morning when he addressed his upcoming surgery. The 50-year-old revealed he has been booked in for a knee operation next week as he apologised to ITV viewers for “hobbling” around while cooking.

When host Phillip Schofield asked James if he was working throughout the festive period, he replied: “No, I’m not, no.

“This is my last day at work because I am in surgery next week as I’m having an operation.”

Phillip said he wasn’t going to mention James’ upcoming operation with ITV viewers.

James chimed in: “I’ve been hobbling around, so I do apologise, I’ve hurt my knee.”

Phillip thought James had been hiding his knee problems well but said: “You have completely stuffed up your knee.”

The TV chef replied: “It’s been suffering for a while but now I am eventually going in [to surgery].”

Co-host Holly Willoughby advised the well-loved chef to look after himself ahead of her operation.

James ended by telling them: “It’s gone, it’s finally gone.”

James recently sparked concern among his social media followers after he announced he was in hospital for an MRI scan.

He shared the health update on his Instagram on Monday, November 21.

The Saturday Morning star penned alongside a photograph of his beloved dog Ralph: “Seems as if we are both getting old fella! Dropped him off for an op this morning, now it seems I need one.”

A second image on the post showed the door of the hospital’s MRI suite.

James shared in the comment section that Ralph was coping well and was “on the mend”.

“Me on the other hand, well, we will see,” James added.

Loose Women’s Katie Piper commented on his post: “Hope it goes well.”

Janey said: “Wishing [Ralph] a speedy recovery and hope you’re OK.”

Claire Lenno added: “Sending love and hugs to both of you. Hope all goes well for you James.”

Kim penned: “Hope all is well for you and Ralph.”

James has another dog, a cocker spaniel called Cooper, as well as Ralph the Lhasa Apso who he occasionally shares pictures of on social media.

This Morning continues on weekdays from 10am on ITV.
