Kanye West Documentary and Podcast in the Works on BBC

According to a new report, the documentary, which is tentatively titled ‘We Need to Talk About Kanye’, will be accompanied with an eight-part podcast series named ‘The Kanye Story’.

AceShowbizKanye West will be the subject of a new documentary being developed by BBC. According to Deadline, the project is tentatively titled “We Need to Talk About Kanye” and is set to be hailed from award-winning journalist Mobeen Azhar.

The report claimed that Mobeen, who also fronted BBC’s “Battle for Britney” documentary, is starting his investigation at the Yeezy designer’s 2024 presidential campaign. The doc will also center on the controversy and fallout surrounding his anti-Semitic comments.

Deadline describes the documentary, “Unfolding against the backdrop of West aka Ye’s 2024 U.S. election campaign, and at a time when his anti-Semitic rantings and behavior have sparked outrage and a re-evaluation of his place in popular culture, the one-off documentary follows Azhar as he attempts to understand the complex journey that led the singer to become one of the most famous and creatively successful artists of his generation.”

“We Need to Talk About Kanye” will air on BBC Two and will be distributed by Abacus Media Rights. Produced by Forest, the project will be executive produced by Catey Sexton and Jez Lee. Joining as producer is Laura Kaye while Stefan Mattison serves as the producer/director.

Additionally, an eight-part podcast series titled “The Kanye Story” from U.K. producer Forest Sounds will  be released alongside the documentary. Ye reportedly will not participate in the documentary or podcast.

The news of the forthcoming documentary and podcast arrived after a project about Ye was put on hold in October 2022 by MRC Entertainment amid his anti-Semitic remarks. “This morning, after discussion with our filmmakers and distribution partners, we made the decision not to proceed with any distribution for our recently completed documentary about Kanye West,” MRC said in a statement.

“We cannot support any content that amplifies his platform. Kanye is a producer and sampler of music. Last week he sampled and remixed a classic tune that has charted for over 3,000 years – the lie that Jews are evil and conspire to control the world for their own gain,” the statement continued.
