Kellie Bright thanks failed EastEnders auditions for marriage to her husband

As EastEnders prepares for an incredibly dramatic Christmas, we know one thing for sure – it’s the last Christmas that Mick Carter (Danny Dyer) will ever see.

As Danny Dyer and Charlie Brooks both prepare to leave their roles as Mick and Janine, the stage is set for an explosive showdown as the truth finally starts to come to light about the extent of Janine’s manipulation – and the fact that she framed Linda (Kellie Bright) for the car crash that she caused herself.

For the actors involved, the departures of Danny and Charlie were emotional for Kellie, who first joined the show alongside Danny in 2013.

‘There were lots of tears on and off screen from me!’ she told us. ‘I’m terrible at goodbyes anyway, and I hate change. It does feel like a massive end of an era. To have someone in your life on a daily basis for nine years and then to have to say goodbye to them is tough. I still speak to Danny all the time, and I’ll still see him, but it won’t be the same.’

A shared history of nine years playing one of the soap’s most iconic couples means that there are a lot of happy memories for Kellie.

‘It wasn’t until Danny’s leaving party, where they put together a montage of his best bits, and there was so much in it, that it hit me,’ she said. ‘There was stuff we’d forgotten about, and it was such a reminder of the stuff that we’ve done together. It was amazing to see, we told so many stories, and we were such a team.’

While Kellie hated the fact that the Carters were split up, there was a silver lining to that cloud as it meant she got to know Charlie Brooks, as Janine inserted herself into the affections of Mick by any means necessary.

‘I’ve loved working with Charlie Brooks,’ Kellie enthused. ‘I’ve found a new friend in her, and I love her to pieces. In many ways, it was just as hard saying goodbye to her as it was to Danny!’

Kellie says that in regards to the iconic pairing of Linda and Mick, ‘Some things are meant to be.’ She revealed that she’d auditioned several times for EastEnders – but losing out on a part led to happiness in her personal life as she met her husband.

‘I auditioned for EastEnders so many times and was close to getting some roles. But my next job was a play in Manchester, where I met my husband,’ she recalled.

‘Four years later, I auditioned for Linda. I think it was meant to be, and the pairing of Danny and me was written in the stars! We’re proud of what we’ve done on the show together. We laughed a lot during those years, and Danny is one of my best friends. We’ve been through so much together, and our scenes have always been a joy.

‘We’re very different actors with different approaches, but we complement each other. I think we’ve been really lucky.’
