Big Brother is back, with ITV announcing the hit reality show is returning to our screens in 2023.

Extra twists have been promised when the iconic show makes its comeback on ITV2 and ITV4, five years after it was axed by Channel 5.

ITV says a new cast of housemates will take up residence for up to six weeks in the Big Brother house, which will have a modern new look, with cameras capturing their every move.

The reboot will have a familiar format including tasks, nominations and live evictions, and the public voting throughout the series to decide the winner.

It has not yet been confirmed who will host the show, with names like Rylan Clark and Maya Jama strongly linked.

Clark – who won the celebrity version of Big Brother in 2013 and went on to present the show's spin-off programme Bit on the Side for several years – is the clear favourite among bookmakers.

He has made no secret of his love for the show and has lobbied for its return, even admitting he would love to host a reboot.

After the news was confirmed during the Love Island final last week, Rylan tweeted a pictured of the Big Brother over ITV2 logos with the caption: “He was always watching… It’s coming back.”

  • Ulrika Jonsson, 54, brands herself 'hot' as she lays herself bare in makeup-free selfie

He later clarified, tweeting: "I’ve not been asked to host the show. As a fan, like always, I’m made up it’s coming back. I know how hard you/we all fought to keep that name alive and I’m so glad it paid off in the end. The OG reality is back. It’s the news we wanted. Welcome back bro x."

But he didn't rule out hosting, adding: "So we will see… v early days Re team / host etc. Regardless we wanted it back and it came back."

Popular presenter Maya Jama, who hosts reality show Glow Up and works with ITV on a number of projects, has been installed as one of the favourites by some bookies after rumours began circulating.

While not all bookies have a market, or don't have the same contenders, others names generally thought to be in with a shout include ITV This Morning presenter Alison Hammond, who was on the third series of the show back in 2002.

Another past contestant, Kate Lawler, who won Big Brother the same year Hammond was on it, is also among the favourites.

Former Big Brother hosts Emma Willis and Davina McCall have also been widely linked.
